I look at the news coverage of the condition in Zimbabwe nowaday.Do you know Zimbabwe?
In this area,
There are some Kingdom such as Great Zimbabwe.
In the 19th century,
UK colonized this area in south africa.
British entrepreneur Cecil Rhodes became a prime minister
in this colony,
so this colony called Rhodesia before 1980.
First, Rhodesia became independent from UK in 1965.
But this country was white-dominated country.
In 1980, as the result of general election
Zimbabwe came into existence in 1980.
Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe has led Zimbabwe since then.
Gradually,
President Mugabe changed to autocratic leader.
and it seems that he espouse racist beliefs.
Recentry,
There was a election in Zimbabwe.
A lot of Zimbabwean disppointed in the president and his policy,
because imbabwe is being encumbered
by political and economic upheaval.
So I think it's highly possible that Mugabe fall into disgrace.
But actually,
It seems that President Mugabe cling onto power now.
戦争と平和

忙しいのか暇なのかわからないような日々がつづいて、気をもんでいたこともあって、更新が滞ってしまいました。
久しぶりに更新します。
今日は本の紹介。
最近、前々から気になっていたある本を入手しました。
｢Shake Hands With The Devil｣という
国連PKO部隊の元司令官 ロメオ・ダレール氏のルワンダでの体験を綴った自伝。
1994年に起きたルワンダ内戦は、
｢ホテル･ルワンダ｣のおかげか、知らない人は少ないだろうと思う。
わずか100日で80万人以上が虐殺される中、
ルワンダ国内には、国連安保理の決定により、
自衛以外の武力行使を認められていない平和維持軍が
たった300人いるだけだった。
ダレール氏らは被害者救助に奔走するが、
結局、部下を何人も失い、彼自身極度の疲労が重なり、
重度のうつ病に陥って、司令官辞任を余儀なくされる。
カナダ帰国後も、ルワンダを救えなかったという自責の念とＰＴＳＤに苦しみ、
薬物自殺を図り、公園のベンチでこん睡状態に陥っているところを発見される。
そんな彼が、立ち直り、ルワンダと向き合うために書いた本である。
残念ながら、日本語訳はまだなく、英語なので
今、ちょっとずつ読んでいる最中です(;^_^ )ゞ
Prefaceにこんなことが書いてあった。
"A Canadian Forces padre asked me how, after all i had seen and experienced,
i could still believe in God.
I answered that i know there is a God
because in Rwanda I shook hands with the devil,
I have smelled him and I have touched him.
I know the devil exists, and therefore I know there is a God.
Peux ce que veux. Allons-y.″

カナダ軍牧師は私にこう尋ねた。
これまでの経験を経て、一体どうやって神を信じられるのか、と。
私はこう答えた。
私は神を信じる、何故なら私はルワンダで悪魔と握手したのだから。
私は悪魔の臭いもかいだし、触れもした。
悪魔がいるのだから、神もいる。
Peux ce que veux. Allons-y(なすべきことは何だってできる。行こう。)
もう一冊は、
｢Facing the lion(ライオンに立ち向かって)」という本。
この本は日本語なので、すぐ読了しました。
第二次大戦中、ナチに占領されたフランス･アルザスに住む
11歳の少女シモーヌが、クリスチャンとしての信念ゆえに、
ハイル･ヒトラーということや国旗敬礼をしなかったため、
学校を追い出され、非行少女を教育する施設に収容され残忍な扱いを受けた
2年間の経験を綴ったもの。
集団に従属するか、個人の信念･良心を貫くかという
究極の選択を問う優れた本だと思います。
シモーヌの両親も強制収容所を経験しており、
シモーヌ同様、戦後も、心的外傷後ストレスに苦しむことになる。
階段を上ってくる足跡に怯え、
悪夢にうなされたことも記録されていて、
戦争が人の心に及ぼす影響についても考えさせられる。
『甚だしい屈辱を受けた人、自尊心をひどく傷つけられるような窮境を経験し、
品性を損なうような極端な扱いを受けた人でなければ、
どれほどこれが人の奥深い意識に焼印を押して、
深い傷跡を残すことになるかを理解できないだろう。』
読み終わったあと、ある牛飼い老人の言葉が心に残った。
『何事も見方次第さ。
自分がその中にいるときは高く見えたとしても、
上から見下ろせば、あんなに小さいのさ。』

French Guiana is an overseas department of Franceand located on the northern coast of South America.
Recentry,i knew this area is not independent country.
In 1713,French government began colonization at Guiana.
And French govenment used this area as the site of penal settlements
from 1852 until 1951.
Now,
There are many people of various races,
such as Guianese Creoles, African, Asian, Haitian, India.
Fench Guiana exports Timber, fish and gold mainly.
But now, it seems that Guianan economy has slowed down.

聖火リレー タンザニアでは？

Yesterday,in TanzaniaThe torch went on a shortened relay
in Dar es Salaam amid tight security.
It seems that
The torch for the Beijing Olympics ended peacefully
without any incidents.
The torch's journeys through Paris, London were all disrupted
by protestsagainst Tibet problem.
When i saw the torch relay was held in London on TV,
I guess it's like steeplechase.
So i worried about torch relay.
Other torch's destination is Oman,Pakistan and India.
As you know,
the torch will come to Nagano in Japan,too.
I'm looking forward to it〜
インドネシアの肺なしカエル

At the island of Borneo in Indonesian,New toad has been discovered.
Its name is the Bornean Flat-headed Frog (Barbourula kalimantanensis).
This toad is no more than 40 mm in length
and live in the rainforests of Borneo.
Surprisingly,
This amphibian don't have a pair of lungs !!!
Instead, they breathes entirely through its skin.
I guess
there are many interesting lives around the world.
Maybe,
a lot of interesting lives have not yet been discovered.
We should protect the environment, shouldn't we?
世界＝国家×民族×宗教

日本人が自分たちを、日本人として意識し始めたのはいつからだろう。
なんて、ユーゴスラビアの歴史を勉強していて思いました。
ユーゴスラビアは5つの民族から成る連邦国家で、
1992年まで存在した。
5つの民族をまとめるため、
国の指導者は様々な手段を講じた。
あるときは、それぞれの民族
例えばセルビア人やクロアチア人ではなく、
ユーゴスラビア人と名乗ることを奨励して
ユーゴスラビア人としての愛国心を築かせようと試みた。
それでも、結局ユーゴスラビア人としての意識を
国民全体にいきわたらせる事に失敗し、
民族主義が台頭した結果、崩壊に至ったと言われている。
このように、国家は国民を統合するために
いろんな手段を用いている。
ある国は、宗教を使ったりもする。
共通の歴史を取り上げて、まとめようとしたりもする。
中国では、北京で話される北京語と香港で話される広東語では、
同じ漢文字を使うけれども、両者が会話しても全く話は通じない。
違う言語というわけ。
それでも、同じ中国人としての意識を持っているわけだ。
でも、日本人は言語学的に比較的近いとされている
朝鮮半島の人々と同じ国民意識、民族意識を持つことはない。
国民意識、民族意識は歴史が作っていくのだろうけど、
これって不思議だな。
歴史が違えば・・・
朝鮮も日本も同じ国民、民族になっていた可能性も
あるんだろうか。
こんな事を考えると、愛国心ってなんだろうと思う。
自分個人の話をすると、
ナショナリズム(国家主義)が大嫌いで、
よくスポーツ選手が世界大会とかで戦っているのをみて、
ニュースキャスターが「日の丸を背負って･･･」とか言い始めると、
はぁ？？？って思う。
もちろん同じ日本住む人が、
海外でがんばっているのを見れば
応援したくなるのはわからなくはないし、
育った国土を大切に思う気持ちは大切だと思う。
ただ、それが外国の、すぐ隣の国の人々との間に
壁をつくるとすれば、それはすごく残念だ。

NATOの東方拡大って？

Recentry,I often hear the word "Eastward expansion of NATO″
NATO summit has been held in Romania.
Surprisingly, Russian President Vladimir Putin was invited.
The US strongly supported accession of Ukraine and Georgia.
Of course,
Russia is fiercely opposed to the eastward expansion of NATO.
Russia might think that
NATO is a serious threat to Russian military.
Mr Medvedev said
"No state can be pleased
about having representatives of a military bloc to
which it does not belong coming close to its borders.″
However, What is NATO?
No Action, Talking Only ???
Haha... I'm just joking.
NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
This alliance made during the Cold War
to compete against communism.
So, of course,
the Soviet Union and Nato were enemies during the Cold War.
Soviet Union and neighboring countries organized
another military alliance, Warsaw Treaty Organization
Warsaw Treaty Organization disappeared
after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
So now, only NATO live.
I don't know more.
Why Ukraine and Georgia want to join NATO?
Anyone,please teach me〜.

帝国を築いたアジアの遊牧民族

A movie titled "MONGOL" is now attracting a lot of attention.I'm not especially interested in this movie,
but I have an interest in nomadic tribe in Mongol.
The Mongols were tribal nomads and skillled horsemen.
In just 20 years,
The Mongols subjugated the inhabitants of more territories
than the Romans had conquered in four centuries long time ago.
and they built Mongolian empire.
You know,
the leader is Genghis Khan.
He ruled from China to Hungary,
and from Siberia to India !
What a large empire !
However this empire was short-lived.
After about 100 years of nation-building,
The empire began to crumble because of power struggles.
